Upgrade a vintage arcade horse-racing machine, bend the odds in your favour and build a billion-pound fortune.

Mechanical Derby is a short incremental horse-racing game inspired by old mechanical arcade machines.

You begin with a small bankroll and a basic understanding of the odds. Back safer horses, scrape together winnings and gradually improve the machine.

As the game progresses you can:

  • Study the runners and identify horses that may be better than their odds suggest
  • Improve the tuning machinery and push unlikely horses towards victory
  • Adjust the track mechanism to favour different lanes
  • Unlock Place and Each-Way betting
  • Raise the maximum stake
  • Automate betting and machine operation
  • Complete challenges to unlock further upgrades

Early on, a short-priced winner may be the safest way forward. Later, the aim is to identify a generously priced outsider and tune the machine heavily enough to force the result.

A complete playthrough takes roughly 1 to 2 hours.

This smells like a fully AI generated game :/

I ticked the boxes saying that is uses some AI generated graphics and code, so I am hiding nothing. I would strongly dispute that it is fully AI generated but you are free to go elsewhere if you don't like the smell.

i tried it out. i love the design.

i noticed if i scale ui up completely some parts become (neatly) hidden. it was a little confusing as it prevented me from seeing the tune horse button. however.. i worked this out eventually.

i like the nostalgic ui and vibe.  looking forward to playing more.

im impressed by your effort here. the game looks like it has real depth. and the ui is lush.

also like how it is presented in a way anyone could admire, not just gamers. it really conjours up a great feeling for me.

Thanks for the feedback. There were some scaling issues  when I uploaded to itch compared to running locally. I attempted to fix it but inadvertently caused the issue you saw. It's never going to work well if your browser windows is too small but it shouldn't tell you to do something but block you from accessing those controls, I've uploaded version 1.4 with more attention to scaling. I was hoping to avoid scrollbars with accordion controls but I've now implemented a scrollbar of last resort and a text scaling control.
